Past Projects
Some highlights of 2008 include:
- Cares Packages were sent to deployed Ft. Bragg and Pope AFB soldiers and airmen.
- Boots and Booties Baby Shower (Nov. 15, 2008) – Open to pregnant and recently delivered military and dependants assigned to Ft. Bragg and Pope AFB. Registration opened on October 1st and over 700 mothers were registered in the first 24 hours. The goal of 1,000 military moms was reached on the third day. Each mom attending received a laundry bag filled with goodies and one of eight additional gifts. There were over 130 door prizes given away including the grand prize, a new Chevrolet Malibu.
- Single Soldiers Return – A unit from XVIII Airborne Corp was scheduled to return home Dec 22nd from a 15 month deployment. 56 of the soldiers were single and returning to empty barracks. Fayetteville Cares solicited items from the community to place in the barracks. Donated items flooded in filling a Tahoe.
- Evening of CARE Dinner – Fayetteville Cares coordinated the sponsorship of 59 soldiers to attend dinners being hosted in homes throughout the community in support of a local nonprofit.
- Green Ramp Cell Phones – Fayetteville Cares worked with Embarq to begin providing cell phones at green ramp when units return from deployments. Many soldiers do not have family members on hand to welcome them home. Embarq provides cell phones for these soldiers to use to call home.
- Worked with Reed Lallier Chevy to provide two vans for the Wounded Warrior Transition Battalion. These vans enabled non military related transportation for the soldiers and their families.
